About the mold: Nate Sexton has relied on the stability and grip of this special Glow Firebird. These Firebirds have a very minor dome & are softer than your average Champion Glow disc to accommodate Nate’s performance needs. Nate had been bagging 11x Glow Firebirds since 2005. The new run of 12x Firebirds were too overstable, even for a powerful forehand thrower like Sexton. “I’m looking for an every day fairway driver with reliable fade but that’s not going to break your arm off,” he told Innova. He asked for his signature disc to be a Firebird in their new color glow plastic with “a little bit of dome, a little bit of flex,” more in the style of the Eleven Time. Innova pressed the Nate Sexton Tour Series Firebird in Color Glow Champion plastic for the first time in 2015. Sexton loved the disc right away, “It’s without a doubt my favorite disc I’ve ever thrown”. It’s a little grippy, a little domey, and boasts some of the coolest artwork to date on a Tour Series disc.
Some notes on stability: Like any other mold from any other company, there is some amount of variation from run to run. This is especially true of the Sexton Firebirds. The same question comes up every year with a new run of Sexton Firebirds. Where do these rank in stability compared to other years? This 2017 Sexton Firebird is generally said to be one of the least overstable runs.
